For those of you who don't have it on your radar, Poptropica is a cool virtual world with games. I was doing some work for them and part of that was to sketch up some furniture using different themes. Here's a few samples. This was a fun one!

Hey guys, sorry I've been incommunicado for almost a year. Did you ever have one of those missing years, where you just didn't know where it went, but it seems to have been sucked into oblivion. Well, that was 2011 for me...

I have been super busy, but obviously I can't show anything from my regular work because it's all under wraps until after the trade show, but here's some of the stuff I've been doing on weekends.

This is all work for a guy named Randy who owns and runs Creative for Kids (http://www.creativeforkids.com) Not only is his work top notch, but he's a great all around human being. He and Michele are both super talented so check out the site.

I feel really bad about not posting in so long, but you know how life is. I'm fortunate enough that I have a lot of work waiting for me. But I wanted to post a project I've been working on for a while, but just haven't had time to finish. It's a children's book and I hope to get it wrapped up sometime, but it may just end up staying in my drawer of dead artwork. This is from my website, incase anyone gets a little deja vu!

I just found these character studies I did for a client a while back. It was supposed to be a web show, but his financing fell through and I ended up with these sketches back on my hands. That's the nature of it sometimes.

I decided to show a little of my process with this one. This is a really good example of how I usually work. Start off with a hand drawn sketch that is scanned in, then I begin laying color. Usually I will put down basic tones first, but I'm matching a previous illustration, so I'm pulling from there. I'll post more when I get more of it done.

Okay, these are from a board game I just finished. It's based around the story of the crucifixion and resurrection. It's a kind of knowledge-based movement game. The bottom piece is the board and the footprints are illustrations of the different scenes from the story that are then placed on the board. I don't have the finished product all put together (they have a graphic designer doing that), but I wanted to show off the pieces because I really loved working on it and the sketchy style was really up my alley. I worked on this project as a subcontractor to a subcontractor. This was about two years ago so I think it's plenty fine for me to show these. To my knowledge they were never used, and I never put them into color, but I still like them!

These are a few designs for a character I'm developing for a children's book. She's supposed to be a bit homely, but I still want her to have enough appeal. I think she's coming along. At first I really distorted the proportions, but it was a little too warped so I scrapped it.

Hey, this is the uncensored version of this piece. The piece is terrible to color correct so I might try to work on it more or photograph it with better light. The original is pastel and colored pencil on paper.

Hey, I'm really digging these character of the week projects from conceptart.org right now. I recommend that everyone go and check it out if you're not already hopelessly hooked. Here's this past week's project. After a little consideration, I've come to the conclusion that my style really doesn't fit in. But what the heck, right? I'll go for it anyway because I love the challenge.

This was an interesting idea, the Patches the clown family out for

a Sunday drive in the four seater bumper car. Too bad about the boring

composition and poor execution. I'll try to work on it over the next few weeks

see if I can't make it better.

A full week of sketches

home so I should be able to find the time, I'm just not

sure where it all goes to. Anyhow, I was drawing dogs for

next year's plush and this one snuck in. Completely unsuited for

the plush industry, but a cool look none the less.

Well, not really new. I worked on this project about sixteen to eighteen months ago. I was working as a subcontractor to a subcontractor, when the subcontractor folded. So I guess it's okay to show these off. It kind of shows my thought process in terms of dressing a set. Not my best work, but it was a lot of fun and I thought you might get a kick out of it.

I always get as far as the idea and the initial concepts, then I get excited about something else. Oh and my full time job gets in the way, too. I'm used to people seeing my stuff on my website and emailing to clients, but it seems a lot more difficult to try to explain something that isn't based on a work order. Like "why is that cat cracking open a beer?", I don't know. I just though it would be funny.

In general, I don't mind doing spin-off characters too much, it exposes me to a lot of styles, and I appreciate even more the times when I have total creative freedom. These are for an ABC book I was tentatively working on. All vector. With a Monster theme. The first image is the cover with the kids on the stairs in the front and the monster on the back. Gutter down the middle, obviously. I was going to title it "House of Monsters: An ABC Book". I know, original right? Anyway, I'll keep posting it as it comes through. I just want to give everyone a taste of what my work looks like.

Hey all, I'm working on a piece for art jumble, so I thought I'd post my progress here. My biggest strength has always been the sketch phase. But nothing establishes mood like color.

So here's the first color comp. I hope I get to bring it all the way to a finish, but I'm not sure. My time has been really limited lately. Anyhow, I hope you like it! The art jumble group sure is great for building a portfolio.

From what I understand, the key is to set the bar low. That way, there are no expectations and therefore no disappointments. That being said, I hope you enjoy my pretty pictures.

I love Jane Austen period pieces so this is a bit of personal art that I did recently. I do a lot of reading so my personal stuff reflects whatever writer I happen to be into at the time. By reading, I mean that I listen to a lot of books on cd while my face is glued to the computer screen.

I like the hip hop culture. So here's a foxy lady for ya! Personally, I couldn't be more geeky. But I love being a geek! Being cool seems like so much upkeep...
